If you like music that plays it safe, don’t bother listening to Jody Whitesides' E.nergy A.udio. R.evolution. Whitesides’ E.A.R. takes more than a few chances with syncopation, dissonance, large doses of distortion, and chaotic samples weaving in and out of the background mix. Individually, none of these characteristics would be unusual. What is unusual is how he pulls them together into a quirky, yet listenable record. Here and there his attempt at art tends to be awkward social soapbox, but if you are like me, you can forgive the occasional rough spot more easily than a record full of the same-old. This ain’t the same-old. Try it. You’ll like it.

When I was a kid, every kind of music was new; hell, I had a hundred years to catch up on. As I got older, fewer and fewer things seemed original. Same riffs, different words; same beats, different instruments. Jody Whitesides actually sounded new to me, and this made me happy. There are good, fun beats and even some interesting lyrics...
...this is a better buy than most of the crap out there; at least it has some character. He is not some cheap-looking man-whore who may as well be in a Vegas strip club as an overzealous lounge singer. As the kids say, "Keep it real."
