"Must I Holler," the debut CD by the band Whoa! Man! Jesus!, is a collection of original and traditional songs done in a minimalist style of two guitars and drums. Influences include blues legends Jessie Mae Hemphill and RL Burnside, folk giants Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, and contemporary bands such as Tarbox Ramblers and the Black Keys.
RL Hulsman of Northeast Performer Magazine calls “Must I Holler” a “hypnotic record” performed with an “understated, yet authoritative delivery” made up of “cohesive performances that retain the feel of a live band in the room.” Its “cool delivery,” says Hulsman, makes this collection “something special.”
Band members include Wayne Rhodes on guitar and vocals, Julian Jefferies on guitar, and Jason Beek (also of the Eilen Jewell Band) on drums and vocals.
