Album Notes

Combining equal parts folk, rock and Americana, NYC singer/songwriter JOE WHYTE's songs are riddled with, "time tested melodies" (TimeOut NY).

Called by A&R service TAXI "the best alt-country artist (we)'ve ever heard", Joe expands on his 2006 EP with his new album, DEVIL IN THE DETAILS, which the music blog Captain Obvious called, “a cohesive
collection of alt-country pearls that shimmer with simplicity and
effectiveness.”

For the past 3 years, Joe has been a recipient of an ASCAPlus award, a merit-based songwriting grant from ASCAP, the performing rights society, and also named a semi-finalist in Discmakers/Taxi Independent Music World Series.

In 2005, Joe was invited to Ireland to play the 8th annual Carlsberg Rhythm and Roots Festival in Kilkenny, where he headlined 2 shows and opened for alt-country legends Son Volt at a third. He also returned for the second year in a row to showcase at both the Dewey Beach Music Conference in Delaware and the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA.

In addition, Joe signed an endorsement deal with Elixir strings, showcased with his band at the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC and had music placed in the PBS show "Roadtrip Nation", which aired on over 70 PBS stations.

In October 2007, he toured the UK and Ireland where he played with such acts as The Duhks and Richmond Fontaine, including one show at the Darvel Music Festival in Scotland. His music is currently getting radio play on WBJB, WFDU, WNTI, WDVR, WRPI, XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, Clear Channel’s ‘Undiscovered’, in addition to numerous internet and UK stations and podcasts.

Over the years, Joe has played with such acts as Son Volt, The Frames, Josh Ritter, Richmond Fontaine, The Duhks, Slaid Cleaves, Shurman and Toby Lightman, to name a few.

Joe is represented (legal) by George N. Stein, former attorney and manager for the late Jeff Buckley.

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...

"**** (4 stars). A significant achievement...The performance standard is high throughout...delicately crafted... Whyte's youthful tenor belies his maturity as a deft writer...it balances musical credibility with populist appeal in a way that is often made to look impossible by less adept artists. - MAVERICK(UK), March 2008

"BEST OF 2007! This album is why I love Americana music...a flat out great CD...I want to hear more...the guy’s got it going on from the writing perspective...he sounds fantastic. Check him out!" – AMERICANAROOTS.COM

"**** (4 stars)! What a damn good album this is! Whyte has put together a collection of songs that stick with you from the very first time you hear them. He is, in our opinion, the most promising artist of the near future. Buy it immediately! - CTRL.ALT.COUNTRY, Jan. 2008 (translated from Dutch)

"Joe Whyte is going to make history with this album, and you heard it here first...Impresses from the start...he launches himself straight into the circle of promising singer-songwriters who we simply have to keep our eye on. A must-buy album!!!" - ROOTSVILLE.BE, Feb. 2008 (translated from Dutch)

"I suspect that this beautiful disc will surface somewhere in my BEST OF 2007 LIST. To succeed in that, it must be a tremendous disc, hence this review. He has a particularly beautiful voice and a great set of musicians in his group...his beautiful, passionate and expressive voice soars with great expression." - ROOTSTIME.BE (translated from Dutch)

"...polished compositions...the opener “This Foolish Heart”, is the type of song you hear once, and click on the iTunes store and buy...Whyte has really crafted a strong record...something bigger than roots music, which gives me the sneaking suspicion that Joe Whyte might end up being bigger too." – HERO HILL (music blog) – December 2007

"Joe Whyte is the best alt-country artist I've ever heard at TAXI (and I've heard alot)...Great songs. Both thumbs way up...These songs contain the essence of what is good about alt-country music...This is flat-out killer from head to toe..." - TAXI

"...an album of consistent quality...Whyte navigates confidently through songs with an assuredness that never approaches pretense...Ultimately, the album is a cohesive collection of alt. country pearls that shimmer with simplicity and effectiveness." – CAPTAIN OBVIOUS (music blog)

"I just put it on and already I’m loving it! Excellent stuff...I really must play more tracks from this album. It really is very good indeed." - Tom Fahey, AMERICANA OK (Scotland)

REVIEWS

Superb 2nd album
author: Andrew Dudley
This is a great record from Joe... the songs on the album cover the range from up-tempo rockers like opener 'This Foolish Heart' and 'Linden to L.A.', to gentle heart-felt laid-back tracks such as the title track with gorgeous pedal-steel, and the sparse 'No More' on which Joe accompanies himself to stunning effect with just mandolin and harmonica. If you dig people like Loomer, or Neal Casal, then you're gonna love this album. If you want to categorise it, then I'd say it's perfect Americana!
