music with power
Some of the tracks will certainly jump at you more than others, but don't be surprised if after a few listens, it's the more understated tracks that you find yourself humming to yourself. WHY do all the right things, lyrically and musically, and it helps to know that they're in the business of making music for all the RIGHT reasons.

I didnt think they could do better, but they did
I loved Lazarus Effect, and hoped RED would be just as good. It wasnt. It was better.
The album starts off strong with Big Thunder No Rain and gets progressively stronger with To Be Human, RED and The Surface (both of which, I guarantee you'll find yourself addicted to and humming througout the day). Burn is my least favorite song on the album, but the lyrics are brilliant - "Be COLD or HOT. Lukewarm is unsightly." and "We need someone willing to stand up, someone who knows how to glow.// Ignite tonight, make apathy a liar. And the world will watch you come and burn."
Freedom in Surrender is probably the most spiritual song from the album - "If I'm for you who can be against you?" is taken right out of scripture ("If I'm for you," says the Lord, "who can stand against you?"). Can't Stand Falling and Shake it off are both solid, and Rewind/Erase asks "can we get it back? Do I want to?"
Broken Legs follows - my second least favorite off the album, and then Petrolhead, very much a heavy metal/head banger rock and roll kind of tune and a lot of fun if you take it at surface value. (read the lyrics).
Ending the album is a softer song, almost a ballad, The Wrong Way. After the groove of Petrolhead, its a welcome respite, and despite being softer in tone, its a solid song. The album starts on a high note, ends on a high note. The filler is much more than filler, and nearly all the songs could be stand alone singles.

RED
well, I just ordered my third copy of Why's album RED. Why? I gave the first one away to a friend. Even though I had it loaded to my iPod already, i wanted the album, the liner notes, the credits etc.. and this is a band I totally believe in and back 100% so I bought another. And today, gave it away to the local radio station dj! He loved The Surface - the fourth song on the album, which they played on air. So here I am ordering my third!

Red is even better than Lazarus Effect
As Why is from my own city, I am particularly pleased how well thought of they are. And finally this CD is available in our stores! They are tops on all of our university stations. It is hard to find musicians who really care nowadays, but Why transcends most.

First time listener...
I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed this album. I found myself tapping my foot and humming too most of the songs. I look forward to some airplay on the Chicago stations and eventually a tour.
