If you took a survey, you would certainly find thousands of people, probably even millions, who hate sitting around in an airport waiting for a plane that is delayed in arriving (again). The sheer frustration of trying to find something to do to pass the time alone is the worst. If you happen to see someone sitting there calmly reading People magazine and jotting down notes, you have probably come across Pat Wictor.

"Heavier Than Air" is just one of the featured songs from Pat's newest release, Things You Know. Besides writing love songs to airplanes carrying a special person back to him, Pat's soft spoken and soothing Adult Alternative style brings to light his insights into life, love and destiny.

Pat masterfully blends elements of his musical influences to create a sound and style that is his own. From artists like Bruce Cockburn and Peter Gabriel he draws the melody, songwriting, symbolic lyrics and sense of adventure. From Nick Drake, instrumentation, and from Richard Shindell, a touch of folk and a sense of focus on creating poignant songs.

All of this can be found in songs like "Unless," a story about defying the odds when the cards are stacked against us, as well as "Things You Know," a song which helps us realize that life works out differently than we imagine, especially for our parents who sometimes have a completely different path in mind for us.

Pat's observations and reflections captured in these songs develop his overall theme for the album. While life may have its unexpected and random turns, we can all make choices in the way it flows and it affects us.

So the next time you are stuck at the airport and you see Pat Wictor sitting there reading People magazine and writing lyrics to new songs, remember that your time should be spent on reflecting life, its changes, where it's headed and how you fit in.
