I was a bit of a jazz snob before I got to Berklee. That soon changed when I had the chance to see Miles Davis live. In spite of my jazz conceit, I still wanted to see Miles play. At that time, Miles was playing electric jazz funk. Not exactly bebop! I especially wanted to hear his new alto saxophonist, Kenny Garrett. I had met Kenny in New York in 1985 at the Village Vanguard jazz club. I was so impressed with his playing, I became more serious about jazz music. That's when I became a jazz snob! But when I heard Kenny Garrett playing funk and playing the HELL out of it, I realized I had been wrong! I needed to be as flexible and open-minded a musician as he was! And when I returned to Vegas, I returned with a more positive attitude toward all music.
Currently, I'm working with Bette Midler and a fantastic local band called Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns. I'm happily married with two beautiful daughters.

Hi
author: Author R. Wigfall Jr.
Well I have not heard yet but my father is big into geneology. That being said shoot me an email sometime, Wigfall is an unusual name so there is a chance we are related. I don't want money or anything like that I just want to get in-touch. My father is from Fort Worth Texas, for starters are you black? We can go from there.

These tunes keep me awake and smiling. I know good music, I was raised by a Juliard educated sax musician father. Wigfall's playing and his compositions are my life line to contemporary styles and delivery. I can't get enough of him and urge him to continue growing and sharing his works. He tells me this is his only CD. How sad.

I've always liked Phil's playing, as I live in Vegas and get to see him all the time. But he gave the CD to Tommy Alvarado, another sax heavyweight, who played it on the break on one of our gigs. We all went "yeah, baby!" when the first tune came on. Phenomenal writing, great playing by the sidemen, and then Phil's sax playing and tone are simply as hip and innovative as it gets. This is the second copy I've bought, as I gave my other one away.He is THE GUY in Las Vegas.-PP
