Florida gospel artist Spencer Wiggins is unleashing his special brand of soulful gospel music onto the public with his new CD entitled “I’m Going On.” One of the featured songs on the CD is the catchy “What A Friend!,” which is a medley of three classic gospel songs sung to a down home blues beat as only Spencer can. While the music for this track can sound very bluesy with electric guitar solos answering Spencer’s verses, Spencer says that it’s not the music but the message that counts. He states, “If Kirk Franklin and other young artists can rap in church and reach their audiences with hip-hop music, why can’t I use the music of my generation to spread the gospel music to many folks who still like this style. In the end, it’s all about bringing souls to Christ.” While controversial, Spencer’s "gospel-blues" songs, which are receiving considerable airplay on many gospel stations, seek to set a new standard in crossing over to different musical genres to spread the message of salvation to listeners of all generations.

This new CD features Wiggins performing the music he loves best, which is either slower gospel cuts like “ God Is So Special,” or the high stepping, Holy Ghost tracks “Highway to Heaven” and “Praise Your Name.” His record label - Miami’s Tavette Records - even included a couple of original Christmas songs on the CD to help ensure that this CD will be played for years to come during the holiday seasons.

The producer of the CD is Thomas Demeritte, the President and CEO of Tavette Records and Tavette Entertainment Group in Miami, Florida. Before coming to Christ, Wiggins, as a popular R&B singer shared the stage with such notables as B.B. King, Al Green, Elvis Presley and Wilson Pickett. Now he can be found at Miami's New Birth Baptist Church, where he is a founding member and revered Deacon, as well as leader of several choirs. With this new release, Wiggins is looking forward to visiting other churches as a music minister and guest artist, singing to the glory of God. He also hopes to capitalize on his growing popularity in Europe and the Far East with tours and distribution in these areas. According to Demerritte: “We feel that the world is ready for Spencer’s new style of gospel music. They also said Kirk Franklin would never make it with his style either, and we know how that prediction turned out.” Here’s hoping that Spencer Wiggins can shake off his doubters, too.
