Wild Blue Yonder is an all-acoustic ensemble of guitar, mandolin, banjo, twin fiddles, upright bass and three-part harmony vocals. All stellar musicians, they are strong on orginality while maintaining a respect for the best in bluegrass traditions. "Above and Beyond," their second CD, is sure to please bluegrass, Americana and folk audiences of all ages. It contains seven heart-touching original songs, three sizzling instrumentals and a few gospel covers that will send your spirit soaring. Spiced up with a dash of percussion and a sprightly penny whistle break on one tune, this disc is in a class all its own.
Wild Blue Yonder's members are Melissa Wade, Philip Coward, Scott Carris, Danny Garrett, Laura Knight and Cindy Wallace. The Knoxville, Tennessee, band has been together since 2001, performing in East Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia and Mississippi. They opened shows in 2003 for Rhonda Vincent and Sherrie Austin, in addition to making the bluegrass fesitval rounds and entertaining at Dollywood themepark.
Their first release, "Bolt Out Of The Blue," featured the infamous novelty tune, "The Possum Crawls Tonight," a backwoods spin on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." This deliciously clever song gained the group extensive airplay, including several weeks as most requested song on WIVK, East Tennessee's largest country radio station.
If you appreciate intelligent lyrics, mesmerizing melodies, warm bluegrass harmonies and hot picking, then Wild Blue Yonder is the band for you. True to their roots while climbing to new heights, this band takes bluegrass music Above and Beyond!
