Album Notes
The exceptional cast for WILDERNESS PLOTS includes noted singer-songwriters CARRIE NEWCOMER, TIM GRIMM, KRISTA DETOR, TOM ROZNOWSKI, and MICHAEL WHITE, performing songs drawn from the tales of Scott Russell Sanders, creating a timeless album at turns romantic, tragic, elegiac, and comic, compressing entire lifetimes into a few stanzas. Like the most distinctive American folksongs and folktales, WILDERNESS PLOTS arises from the experience of wrestling with a wild, raucous, dangerous, and glorious continent.

For more info and tour:

KRISTA DETOR is a CoraZong Records recording artist. Originally from California, but currently living in Bloomington, Indiana, she has traveled the world and written down much of what she's seen of the people and places along the way. Her most recent release is the highly acclaimed "Mudshow."

"She would be good on every stage in the world..." ~ Rolling Stone

TIM GRIMM is an actor (stage, film, and television) and Wind River recording artist. He lives on an 80-acre farm, not far from where he grew up. Named 2004 Roots-Americana Male Artist of the Year, his latest release "The Back Fields" was Best Americana Album~2006 in The Just Plain Folks Music Awards.

"An artist who never fails to deliver." ~ Dirty Linen

CARRIE NEWCOMER has released ten critically acclaimed albums on Rounder Records and is a national workshop leader and facilitator (songwriting, activism, spiritual vocation). Her song "I Should've Known Better" appeared on Nickel Creek's 2003 Grammy winning album "This Side."

"She's a poet, storyteller, snake-charmer, good neighbor, friend and lover, minister of the wide-eyed gospel of hope and grace." ~ Barbara Kingsolver, Author, Poisonwood Bible

TOM ROZNOWSKI is a singer and songwriter whose original music has been heard from Idaho to Siberia and all stops in between. He has lived most of his life in Indiana. His new CD is entitled "This Place In Time."

"Roznowski doesn't so much channel the voices of his forebears as internalize them in the service of sound." ~ No Depression

MICHAEL WHITE's music landed him as a finalist in Musician Magazine's Best Unsigned Bands Competition, and his songs have been covered by artists as well known as Ricky Skaggs. He has produced four albums and continues to write songs and score music for television.

"Michael White's songs combine exceptionally poetic, intelligent lyrics with haunting, compelling melodies, presented with a mesmerizing voice..." ~ Carrie Newcomer, Rounder Recording Artist

SCOTT RUSSELL SANDERS is a writer who lives in the hardwood hill country of southern Indiana. Among his more than twenty books are novels, collections of short stories, and works of personal nonfiction, including Staying Put, Hunting for Hope, and A Private History of Awe. He has taught for more than three decades at Indiana University, where he is a distinguished professor of English.

"The language of these tales is chiseled, spare to the point of folklore: every word carries a lovely weight. Seldom has America's early story been so beautifully told." ~ Publishers Weekly

"IT IS A RARE AND WONDERFUL event to see a new blended-genre piece work so beautifully in a first time on its feet! Wilderness Plots is already well on its way to capturing something powerful about rural, Midwestern life in a way that is fresh and highly appealing. Thanks for allowing me to see it in its early stage of development." ~ Joel Grynheim, Project Manager, The New Harmony Project

After all these years.
I read Wilderness Plots many years ago,I have never forgotten those stories of the Ohio Valley during the Pioneer Period of our land.I read the bookk shortluy after it was witten and have used the material many times in my teaching career on biology and history lessons. Now I have heard and ordered the CD, what a wonderful compilation of hisoptry abnd folk music. The songs are great and as true to their stories as they need to be. What a wonderful blast form the past to here Willderness Plots in musical form.

Simply wonderful.
Wilderness Plots is just wonderful. The language is just brilliant at points. And at least for me, who was always horrible at history, it is teaching me about this period and giving an incredible powerful voice to that time of rural life. And it has given me exposure to songwriters I likely would never have listened to otherwise. It's really a wonderful gift. Krista's voice is so mesmerizing and haunting. I had to close my eyes the first time I heard it. And Carrie, well, her voice is like no other and her writing extraordinary.

I bought this CD because I am a fan of Carrie Newcomer and she talked about this album at a concert. I really enjoyed all the artists and the collaborative aspect of this album. I want to read the book now. It is a winner.
