BRANCHING OUT is Wild Notes' long awaited second offering.
Their eclectic blend of old and new has been described as 'St. Patrick at a Hoedown' or as one fan put it, "Wild Notes will change your O’Doul’s to Guinness!"
The Notes originally drifted together as a dance band playing at Contra and Waltz sessions throughout New England. These dance roots are displayed in their first CD entitled “SOWING” (also available at CD Baby). This time around the band has branched out into original songwriting and tune-smithing, which reflects their migration from dance hall to concert stage.
Wild Notes is Mickey Koth, who plays fiddle, viola, flute and whistle as well as contributing two sets of toe-tapping dance tunes (“Partly Sunny/Sine Nomine/Not So Simple Gifts/Peepers & Bullfrogs” and “Devil with the Dill Pickle/A Nod To Phoebe/Rock the Bow”); John Kalinowski (which in Gaelic is pronounced ‘Ceili-nowski) blends the traditions of Anglo Concertina with the sounds of Celtic and French Accordion (yes, accordion - don’t be afraid!) These two founding Notes have been playing together for over seven years. Kasha Breau’s musical elegance on harp and vocals breathe fresh life into ancient Celtic ballads (“Bonny Portmore-Dream Angus” and “Fear A Vhata”). She also provides solid piano rhythms to the dance tunes. Kasha’s pensive “Waltz for Andes” brings the CD to a close. Peter Delaney’s edgy energy is the spark of the band, driving, bouncing and lilting through each song with guitar and mandolin. His voice is charming as he weaves his way through two wonderful tales - “Piper’s Refrain” and “The Ballad of St. Anne’s Reel”. (Peter loves a good story – He’s Irish). Dan Hocott anchors and lifts the Wild Notes with double bass and percussion. His love for Americana is evident in the original tunes “Liberty City Rag” and “Drink the Wine Slowly” where he plays piano. Dan also lets us into his quirky world of love and relationships captured in the songs “Just Let Me Know” and “Thirty Years and Seven Days”.
We’re confident you will enjoy the energy, textures, musicianship and variety captured in BRANCHING OUT by Wild Notes. It will draw you in and never let go. As one fan said “I can’t stop listening”!

Music to my Ears..
author: C. Belliveau
I grew up in Canada and in the small town would gather with neighbors all bringing their instruments and voices to join in music much like this. My Uncle being a famous fiddle player would have loved to hear this that's why I bought myself a CD and one to share with my mom whom is 88.
