Album Notes

GYPSY includes six original songs sounding her affection for the intimacy of the guitar, Spanish, pop, folk, and reggae, which she performs along with her repertoire of The American Songbook and traditional jazz standards.

Gypsy was a labor of love, and a diary of a songbird in flight and on the road. Enjoy the journey from AL to NYC, from TX to a year in Japan. You'll hear a tag of "The Streets of London" at the end of her song "Starving" she learned from a British radio broadcast in Kuwait, where she lived for a year with her family. The world is full of small intricate interesting sounds and sometimes just one great big beautiful song! Viva la musica!

Special guests - backups on "If An Old Lover Calls" by Lynn Pinto and John Blaylock, and "Rosa's Dance" original tune by Berklee College of Music guitarist and friend Bob Schaller.

Great voice showcases terrific tunes

Shawn's elastic, right-on voice is enough reason to check out this CD, but the tunes, to say the least, are another. One tune in Japanese, another a country tune set in Japan --and all well done -- where else can you find such a creative mixture? My personal favorite is When An Old Lover Calls -- and I'm sure it'll be yours too. Check out Gypsy -- you won't regret it.

Shawn Wilhite's Gypsy Is like a musical mosaic, the singer-songwriter takes the listener from an intoxicating version of Fever to Sakura,a traditional Japanese folk song. Shawn's original songs are deeply rooted, like a quest for the soul, the spiritual world she contemplates. This Ladyship is already sailing, take to the high seas with her.
