Album Notes

No, it's not a typo.

This is neither the wacky teen flick nor the Don MacLean/Madonna ode to rock and roll heroes of yesteryear.

In fact, American Pi is a slice of the music of tomorrow, a blend of acoustic and eccentric words and music, with roots ranging from Stevie Wonder to the alt sensibilities of Kurt Cobain and Tom Waits.

Those were Austin Willacy's muses, and he credits them with helping lead him through a capella singing and into his band, the House Jacks.

Although blessed with a wondrous, flexible voice, he's also done lots of behind-the-board work, writing, arranging, and producing with 'Til Dawn, a vocal group out of the San Francisco Bay Area, and Geffen artist KAI.

On American Pi, Willacy has rich support from, among others, Jon Evans (bass), who's worked with Tori Amos; Andrew Borger (percussion) from Waits' band, and, from tin hat trio, Mark Orton (guitar), Rob Burger (keyboards and accordion) and Carla Kihlstedt (violin).

I got this CD a few years ago, and it's remained in my regular rotation. Every song on the disc is strong, and the rhythms and melodies are so solid. Many Rock and R&B influences can be heard in his music.. listen to the samples and then buy the CD... let your ears enjoy the ride.
