Album Notes

Willem Maker’s debut disc, Stars Fell On, will be reissued September 2nd on Big Legal Mess Records (Fat Possum). In the meantime, remaining copies of the self-released pressing, a limited edition of 1000, can be purchased here. Recorded and mixed entirely at Maker’s own Foxhole studio on Turkey Heaven Mountain, in the hills of East Alabama, the disc was mastered by Sarah Register at The Lodge, NYC, and was released by Makerworks Recordings on May 15th, 2007. Thanks for listening!

“Poetic garage-rock-and-blues … pastoral portraits of rebirth and renewal in the isolation of rural life with a style that suggests influences from Charlie Patton to Crazy Horse … songs about transformation and living a life outside the lines … certainly encourages comparisons to the garage-rock of the White Stripes or the Black Keys, [but] the lyrics dispense with the familiar riffing on the blues form. Willem Maker presents garage-rock with a self-referential modernist poet as lyricist” ― No Depression

Just simply whoa!

Nothing more to say. I got interested when I saw Willem Maker opening for CLUTCH on their latest tour. Just THE most excellent singer/songwriter album I heard in years. You'd never tell, this guy is sort of a newcomer and this is a debut, since the music goes so fluid but also in an intense way, that'll straightly touch your soul! Go and buy now!

I heard a few tracks on MySpace so went ahead & bought the damn thing..you should do the same thing if you like your Blues in the Hill country style with a touch of southern rock Willem's voice reminds me a little of Americana singer Lonesome Bob. Another thing the opening track 'Aero'is worth $13 alone so that means you get the rest of the album for nothing is that a deal or not!! I've been playing it repeatably since I've had it!
