Album Notes

Haunting melodies and poetic lyrics are Mark's signature. On the CD "Ghosts of Eden" Mark captures the soulful fire of his live performances. He uses guitars, harmonica, cellos, violins and steel guitar to convey raw emotion, not over-polished corporate pop-rock.

Mark enjoyed recording these songs with such gifted musicians, as the laid-back Bill Pillmore, who with his band "COWBOY", was a pioneer of the country rock scene and recorded for Capricorn Records (he also recorded with the late Duane Allman of the "Allman Brothers"); Landon Walker who has performed with many great jazz artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, and Lionel Hampton; Linda Minke who has played with various symphonies and is currently performing with the Jacksonville Symphony; Craig Barnette who has played with the "southern fried soulful funk" band "MoFro".

Mark Williams is the first musical artist to get a grant (2003 recipient) from the Community Foundation of Jacksonville and the J. Shepard, Jr. and Mary Ann Bryan Arts Endowment.

Mark recently composed music for nationally recognized spoken-word artist and playwright Al Letson's "Essential Personnel", which ran Off-Broadway in the Nuyorican Poets Café, in the DC Arts Center in Washington and in the Theatre Project in Baltimore. One song from this show, "Cuban Dreams" appears on the "Ghosts of Eden" CD.

Mark's musical roots stem from the mountains of Pennsylvania, where he formed the blues influenced rock group the "Last Surviving Buffalo Band". Their music received regular airplay on regional radio stations and they were one hell of a wild and crazy band to see perform live. Enticed by the New York music scene, Mark moved into the city where he became a founding member of the underground sex/rock band "The Spike Heel Feel" which also was a hot band on stage. He currently plays with his group "Blue Horse" on the east coast (mostly South of Savannah)where on any given night Mark plays his ass off with emotional and energetic guitar and harmonica solos.
