((You might have heard his tight flow and sharp lirycs on Any of The Beatnuts Album, or The Fast And The Furious Movie Soundtrack with N.O.R.E, or maybe on the DJ Honda Compilation, or The DJ Scribbles Album, or maybe on The DJ Tony Touch Classic 50 MC's MixTape or maybe you heard him with Cuban Links on The Black Mask Movie Soundtrack, and the list goes on..........))
The rough pavements of Corona, Queens has been home to many legendary figures in the rap game. Cats like Kool G. Rap, The Beatnuts, Noreaga, Eric B., and Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor, have all blessed the rap game with classic material inspired by the daily hustle and bustle that goes down in this tiny hamlet that sits in Northeast Queens. In the year 2003, Willie Stubz is set to burst on the scene and continue in the grand tradition of his neighbor hood forefathers. Packing a rugged flow, insightful lyrics and subject matter, combined with a commanding stage presence; Stubz is a can't miss prospect just waiting to make a big impact on the fickle rap industry.
As the love from his neighborhood grew, Stubz found himself wanting to get more out of his talents as the first thoughts of a rap career slowly began creeping through his mind. " I finally realized that I could make a career out of this and started focusing on getting my rhymes out there past my neighborhood." One thing led to another and Stubz was introduced to a young DJ named SPK who was also making the transition from neighborhood DJ superstar to the world of hip-hop production. " I met SPK in '96 when he was first starting out on the production tip. We hit it off and started making joints. Things started to move quickly once we got together." The results of heir late night collaborations gained Stubz and SPK a name in the underground hip hop scene and independent label projects began pouring in. " We put out a few records overseas and some here in the US that did well in the underground. Those singles led me to my first record deal."
In 1998, Melvin Gonzalez caught wind of Stubz' skills and offered him a deal with then fledgling label Pentagon Ent. " When we first signed to Penatgon, it was like a dream come true. We were on an indie that had a lot of money and a great support staff. Working with them really taught me a lot about the game." Taking advantage of his new-found resources, Stubz poured himself in the studio and began working on his solo album. With the release of the first single, "Pimpin' Ain't Easy" featuring Cuban Link (Terror Squad) causing a commotion on the underground scene, Stubz met and signed a deal with Tommy Boy Records.
His dreams of champagne and caviar were cut short however when Tommy Boy underwent a huge restructuring and Stubz' project got pushed back. " I went from being the star to just another cat on a roster. I knew it was time to go." He quickly gained a release from the label and continued on the path that got him signed in the first place. But before he could get on again tragedy struck the label. Pentagon president Melvin Gonzalez was murdered, leaving Stubz without the support that took him to the next level. Shaken, yet undaunted, Stubz put his nose to the grindstone and continued working towards that ever elusive record deal. " At that point it was now or never and I wasn't about to give up after the taste of success that I had."
The year 2003 finds Willie Stubz and SPK returning to their underground roots with the release of the single "QU..EE..NS" (featuring Capone & Nature) b/w "Get in 2U" on SP.Killa Muzik/ Thugged Out Militainment. "We bringing it back to the basics with this single and trying to give the people something hot to check for. Hopefully, the right label comes along and gives us the distribution to get our music out to the whole world." Using the sum of his past experiences as both inspiration and a guideline, Stubz is confident that his material will break through and gain attention from the masses. " We makin' good music that's about something, so I'm confident that it will blow. Even if it takes a few shots, at the end of the day alot of people will know my name." ....Cop The Industry Album it's worth your money....
