Album Notes

"Alex Wilson really does play Latin jazz rather than the party-on chord-
clattering that often passes for it... he has absorbed the original sources while
developing a sound totally his own.”

John L Walters, The Guardian

Alex Wilson is an award winning pianist, regularly performing with Courtney
Pine and playing to sell out crowds with his own salsa orchestra recently at
Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho and headlining the Bristol
Harbour Festival.
Somewhere between London and Havana, volcanic activity has triggered the
emergence of a new tropical island – Salsa con Soul. This is the eruption fans
of Alex Wilson – the UK's top salsa/Latin jazz piano man and bandleader –
have been waiting for. His sixth album, Salsa con Soul is simply the ultimate
crossover dance music album of 2008.
In 2007, Wilson released his 5th album, Inglaterra. This was his first to feature
the fire water of salsa dura neat and amounted to a declaration of war on the
dance floor. Tracks like Show Me and a salsafied version of Chaka
Khan's Ain't Nobody appeared on 10 compilations and are still burning up
dance floors in salsa clubs across the globe. Salsa con Soul continues the as-
sault, only this time the fires of soul and gospel bring a softer, more romantic
vibe to balance the muscular, urgent yang drive of Cuban timba and salsa
dura.
Three 12 piece salsa soul orchestra launch concerts featuring the are booked :
Jazz Cafe London (9th Nov), Birmingham Town Hall (8th Nov) & Stylus in
Leeds (19th October). Three PR companies are on board : Helen Maleed
(mainstream press), Lee Knights (salsa specialist) & DJ Lubi (DJ promotion).
