Album Notes

WindRose Trio
Beth Levia, oboe
Jeff Campbell, clarinet
Matthew Howatt, bassoon

Founded in 2002 by three musicians with a passion for chamber music, WindRose Trio has been presenting Edmonton audiences all the charm and wit that the reed trio repertoire has to offer. WindRose Trio is extremely pleased to present four favourite works. The 2006 performance of the virtuosic Trio by Villa-Lobos was the inspiration for composer Joseph Lai to write a trio of his own which WindRose Trio was honoured to premiere in October, 2007. Divertimento by Edmonton composer Violet Archer is such a charming piece that it deserves to be more widely known. Diversions by Peter Schickele is widely known, at least amongst reed trio fans, and for good reason. Lastly, Etude on Espla’s Scale is recorded in tribute to the trio’s dear late friend Roger Deegan.
