Album Notes

the original concept for the record was to quickly turn out a five-track ep to help us promote ourselves, and to allow us to leave something behind as we start to bring our show to new cities. but as things developed, it became clear that our personalities were not particularly well-suited to that task; that is, all of us found it impossible to take our hands off the project to the degree that would be required to simply crank out a record that wasn't as polished as possible. we needed space, and we needed time. if we were going to put something out there, we wanted to craft every note, bit, and decibel, and produce something that people would be able to listen to over and over again, discovering some new detail on each listen.

so we opened it up and dug in. we had a terribly small budget to support the project, so we rationed scrupulously. we shelled out for studio time to record the drums, but everything else was recorded in a combination of various living rooms, bedrooms, closets, and basements. we clashed and compromised. long sections were recorded, rerecorded, cut out, put back in. the hard drive crashed, we yelled a lot, we thought we were doomed, but the data was eventually recovered. our target release date came and went as we slaved over the mix, we played the show anyway, production continued, and eventually it was done.

we are proud of this one, and we are very happy to finally be able to present it to you. thanks for listening, and please share our record with anyone you'd like.
