Album Notes

"Misty Morn" is the final album from legendary steel guitar session musician Julian "Winnie" Winston, recorded shortly before his death in 2005. Born in Yonkers, New York in 1941, Winnie became a mainstay of New York's bluegrass scene as a teenager. He won several major banjo contests, and in the early 1960's formed The New York Ramblers with Jody Stecher, David Grisman, Gene Lowinger, and Fred Weisz. He discovered the pedal steel guitar in the early 70's, and quickly became an in-demand sideman for, among others, Steve Goodman, David Bromberg, Jim Ringer, Mary McCaslin and Jay Ungar. With Bill Keith, he co-authored the influential Oak Publications guide to learning the pedal steel. Winnie was also well-known in the worlds of industrial design (teaching at Philadelphia's College of the Arts for 25 years) and homeopathic medicine (editing Homeopathy Today magazine and serving on the board of the National Center for Homeopathy).
