This hi-energy band based out of Wash D.C., was formed by Jumpin' Joe Phillips, and has worked numerous venues with Jerry Butler,The Drifters, The Delfonics and many others. After the success of the hit record "Color Him Father", the original set of winstons dismantled and went in separate directions. Their are no original members from the 1969 group.
Since 1996, The Winstons(& their orchestra), under the direction of Joe Phillips, have been performing the classic hit song "Color Him Father" at major concert venues all over the country, including the world famous apollo theatre in New York City, The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Ca., Symphony Hall in Newark, New jersey, The Lyric Opera House in Baltimore, Maryland and more. This song went #1 r&b in 1969 and #2 on the hot 100. The writer, Richard Spencer, received a grammy award for the best new song of the year. The latest CD , "Keeping Old School Alive", includes the smash hit "Happy Mothers Day" and a remake of the Ray Charles classic, "You Dont Know Me".
The winstons have also worked as a back-up band for former saturday night live actor and comedian, Joe Piscopo.
Their funky rhythm section and slammin' horn section will surely have you rockin' to the hits of yesterday and today.
