"Music's new frontier"
author: Bill Bradford
Without Borders "Passage" is one of the most refreshing and creative works I've come across. The music is new, infectious, and a joy to hear. With driving percussive rhythms, and "soulful" ensemble musicianship, Western, African, and Asian traditions fuse effortlessly with elements of jazz, classical, and world music.
I first heard this CD on classical radio WDAV, and if this provides any hint as to where new music of that genre is going, a whole new audience may open. A creative gem from composer David Crowe.

"A first release embraces global sounds...well crafted and beautifully played."
author: Charlotte Magazine
"Passage" is the first CD by Without Borders, a six member ensemble. Well crafted and beatifully played, their works create a vivid sound world. The CD is dominated by three multipart suites. In "Shaman's Dance"from the "Without Borders" suite, the guitar, flute, and cello follow each other, entwining tunes into delicate braids. "Theme" from "The Echo" begins with a sprightly melody for flute and guitar that bursts into a fountain of joyful abandon for the entire ensemble. "Ma Fo Ren" from "Three Masters" crashes with Chinese gongs, cymbals, and woodblocks, while the flute swirls like a leaf in the wind. -excerpt from Charlotte Magazine review by Meg Freeman Whalen-
