Tell The Wind's nine original songs by Witten are augmented with a Beatlesque-pop acoustic version of "Dandelion," the Rolling Stones 1967 flower-power single. Opening with the up-tempo "Encircled," the album shifts through moods to the darker "Almost Just As Good," the sultry "Obvious" and the breezy cover of "Dandelion," to the folk gospel of the title track. Artfully layered arrangements feature Patti’s smoky-sweet voice and acoustic guitar over producer Rich DePaolo's acoustic and electric guitar, bass, even toy piano. Subtle drums (Bill King) combine well with pedal steel guitar (Robert Powell) on the standout "No More Crying," and shimmering electric guitar from Robby Aceto (ex Tom Tom Club) backbones the closing track, "April Fool."
In the late 1990s Patti was inspired by workshops with Rosanne Cash and now it's hard to find a song contest or honor that she hasn't won. Ten songs from Land Of Souvenirs, her 1999 self-released debut, won awards in songwriting competitions, including Grand Prize in the Great American Song Contest. Patti continued to work with friend, band mate, multi-instrumentalist and producer Rich DePaolo, releasing a six-song EP named for their band, Prairie Doll, in 2000, followed by Sycamore Tryst in 2003. In all, songs from Patti's CDs have earned more than thirty honors and awards from a list of international and regional competitions, and have appeared in several network TV shows and independent films.
Rosanne Cash even wrote liner notes for Sycamore Tryst, saying, "I was struck from the first verse I ever heard her play. She is a gifted, original songwriter who delivers her songs with a clarity and strength that are quite rare."

A brilliant dose of folk-rock from an outstanding writer.

"Tell the Wind" is a fantastic album, rich with emotion. Patti's lyrics and melodies flow together beautifully and her voice is crystal clear and strong. She takes her poetry to a whole new level here.
My favorite track on this album is "Perfect Blue" which nearly drove me to tears with it's emotional lyrics and heart-breaking melody.
"Obvious" delivers a sexy dose of rock 'n roll and "You're So Mine" is acoustic folk-rock at it's best.
I think this album is intensely personal and I for one can't stop listening.

Patti writes what I'd like to,but can't

I first became aware of Patti Witten when she played flute and sang back-up in a funk band called Moxie. Back then her songwriting skills were the best kept secret in Ithaca, New York. Now that the secret is out in Ithaca, therest of the world will have to play catch up and embrace her as one of
America's leading songwriter poets. I should warn you her "potent" folk songs are not for everyone. These well crafted little gems are for those who are willing to be completely opened up emotionally and undone. Best advised to stay away if you can't stand the heat. Girls who have had their hearts
broken will easily relate. Talented boy musicians want to play with this consummate artist who can play guitar in open tunings beautifully. She comes from the school of Joni Mitchell. She means business. And thank god she does. As her mentor before her she can inspire women to be the best artists they can be or help the listener to heal wounds by simply sharing her truth in song. She has done all of these things successfully with every CD she has meticulously crafted. TELL THE WIND is the best yet. The songs stay with me. Most of my days are spent with song bites in my head. Bits and pieces of these new songs are with me daily since I first heard the CD 3 months ago. They help me get past my own longing and desires and inspire me to want to sing and create.

Who doesn't love understated sublime - that bridges perfectly between truth and perception . . between dark and light? The musical settings here are dreamlike and tasty . The excellent production & choice music licks, in TELL THE WIND, let Patti articulate her vocals and narratives . . with stirring swirls of aural color . . and subtle shades of emotions . This stuff is weighty at times . . and personal, but still accessible and satisfying to me.
