Album Notes

Here is a fresh and intriguing interpretation of the traditional Sabbath prayers and songs.

The voices of Rabbi Jonathan Kligler and Zoe B. Zak meld together seamlessly, bringing a prayerful and effervescent quality to this ancient liturgy.

Expertly produced and imaginatively arranged by Zoe B. Zak, this recording brings together musical styles from all over the world.

This is new Jewish music at its best.

If you would like to be able to make Shabbat in your own home, this recording and accompanying 24-page booklet will help. All the blessings and prayers of the Friday evening Shabbat meal and of the Saturday evening Havdalah service have been included.

If you wish, you can actually play this recording and sing along with it as you celebrate Shabbat at home, following the service in the booklet. Or you could practice with this recording in preparation for leading the Shabbat rituals yourself. But this is not just a practice tape.

Many wonderful musicians have put their hearts and gifts into this recording so that it might also be a thing of beauty.

We hope that you will want to listen to 'Come, My Friend' for the pure pleasure of it, and we hope that it will gladden your spirit.

One of the best recordings of contemporary Jewish music I have heard. Those new to Shabbat observance and those who have "heard it all" will be delighted with this. The version of Oseh Shalom is absolutely the most beautiful I have ever heard!

I was pleasantly surprised by this CD. The male and female voices harmonize beautifully and I was not offended by the interlinear english translations. The doo wop and falmenco were a bit much for me.
