With Scorpius Risin', wm Alan Ross has once again given us a collective mix of the eclectic - a unique blend of strong color, contrast and balance.
The heavy electric guitar work of Scott Jarrett (brother to Keith Jarrett, jazz virtuoso) on the title track strongly contrasts with the delicate mandolin work of Bryan Cumming on Dance With My Wife. The instrumentation is a masterpiece, and includes the work of Jarrett on autoharp, piano, keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and vocals; while Cumming excels on guitar, mandolin, bass, baritone and soprano recorders, drums, and keyboards. Added to their superb workmanship are Ross's vocals ~ that perfect pitch that makes him so desirable in all studio session work, that voice described as "warm butter melting on a plate." Mix in Ross' very present guitar work, and you've got a CD worth sharing.
The "Old Romantic's" heart is on his sleeve in tunes like "Dance With My Wife," and "Simpatico."
But it's the cut titled "The Ring" that has special significance for Ross, who wrote and sang the tune as his wedding vows to his wife, Caroline, on their wedding day.
In 1999, the couple co-authored the book Love Is Forever, a compilation of love's timeless words.
