“Golden Acre, Goodnight” is the true story of Jim G. Brown and Golden Acre, a onetime magical private domain and the USA’s 1945 Victory Garden of the Year, a considerable honor in its time. Alan had the pleasure of living at the sacred spot for nine years -- on the same land where once upon a time vines of green beans spelled out "victory," and the tomatoes were as big as basketballs. This story/song never fails to elicit a light tear, a wistful smile. Mr. Brown was a simple man who lived close to the earth, giving away his goods with a generosity rarely equaled. Golden Acre, the property, still exists in Nashville, Tennessee. Today, it nestles in its tiny acre of woods, in turn dwarfed by high-rise buildings, concrete roads, and parking lots. No matter what your musical preference, this is a story worth hearing. And sharing. And passing along.
