This disc is a field recording from the March 1999 Western Massachusetts Sacred Harp Convention. The cd captures the rugged intensity and joyful sound of that first annual WMSHC, brimming with full-throated, rollicking, harmonies. It is a snapshot of a convention that has, in the intervening years, developed into one of the largest annual gatherings of Sacred Harp singers and helped to foster an energetic and vibrant local singing community. The roots of that community are audible in this evocative disc.
With liner notes by Tim Eriksen, chairman of the 1999 convention.
