Album Notes

Wolfe & Powell are Steve Wolfe, on saxophone, and Paige Powell, who plays acoustic guitar. It's an unusual combination, but all of the songs are original compositions, written by Paige Powell, whose motto is "The world needs more great melodies". Melody is central to each song, memorable and "hum-able". If you love smooth jazz, this is the CD for you! There are also a few Latin beats and Spanish-style guitar strums. The music is happy, romantic, and was recorded with lots of fun and creativity. To keep the guitar interesting, Paige has used a lot of alternative guitar tunings, including a little-known Bb tuning.

Steve Wolfe's first instructor, Shorty Hall, tutored Dizzy Gillespie. His private tutor was David Gerwig, first chair alto saxophonist in the Marine Corp Band, Washington, DC. He plays tenor and soprano saxophone on "Cappuccino Music," but can play all of the instruments of the clarinet family, the saxophone family, and C flute.

Paige Powell plays a Martin D-18 acoustic guitar, a gift from her father at Christmas when she was home from college. She learned music by playing the piano when she was little, and played the cello in Junior High. When asked how she can compose the melodies she does, she replies, "My dad always had classical music playing in the house from the time I was born. I'm sure my brain was 'imprinted' in some way".

Smooth, easy, happy, and jazzy...

Cappuccino Music is everything promised on the label -- Smooth, easy, happy, and jazzy. The songs range in style from romantic ballads to a spicy jazz with loads of personality. The melodies tend to stick in your head. My favorites are "A Beautiful Sound", "Show Me a Door" (delightful), and the lively "Tornado!" This CD makes me feel comfy and cozy. It would be perfect when you are in the mood for smooth jazz, as background music for a romantic dinner at home, or even for calming the nerves after a long day at work.
