Who's This On The Wolfman Telephone?!
author: Dennis Derr
What a SUPER CD!! Authentic memories of the Wolfman Jack Show --XERB -- and the many phone calls that came into the station. I was a mobile Disc Jockey for over 20 years -- and would always throw in a "Wolfman Jack" imitation whenever I could! He was the BEST of radio -- bar none. Don't miss this CD --- YOU will howl --- just like the Wolfman! My brother and I would actually buy Wolfman T-Shirts, roach clips, bumper stickers etc.(back in the early 60s)---"Just send CASH, CHECK, or MONEY ORDER to Wolfman T-Shirt XERB Hollywood California".

This is a decent collection of phone calls and bits of business from the world's most famous D.J. The best trax are those from his XERB days (1966-72). Back then Wolfman would record his shows In Los Angeles, CA a day ahead of time on several reel-to-reel tapes. One tape had commercials on it, another had Wolfman introducing songs, while another tape had recordings of phone calls. The tapes were transprted across the border to Rosarito, Mexico with directions on how to put the show together. The Mexican engineers would broadcast the tapes from the XERB, 50,000-watt transmitter giving listeners the impression that they were hearing a live show.
The phone calls from his XERB days are real phone calls. They are distinguishable by the sound of both the caller's and the DJ's voices filtered through the phone. Back in the day, every listener had their own idea or fantasy of what they imagined the Wolfman to look like, each felt that they knew him personally. For many, he was their friend, father figure, and guardian angel all rolled into one. You get a feel for that when you listen to some of these historical recordings.
