Wooden Ghost is the crossing point where the pavement turns to gravel road. The Brooklyn based musicians rise from the ashes of the former quartet, Ask The Dust. Brent Cole, the lead man and driving force behind both acts, grew into a thicker Wooden Ghost sound by transforming the collection of introspective originals he has written throughout his career as a songwriter.
A multi-instrumentalist in the studio and on stage, Cole composed and recorded his first 3 original EP's, finding inspiration in musicians spanning several genres, including: J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., Neil Young and Built to Spill. Continuing to record and perform with such New York City luminaries as Dufus, The Moldy Peaches and several others, Brent placed Wooden Ghost in the driver's seat, entering the studio in the fall of 2002 to record their debut album for Tuolumne Records.
Wooden Ghost was designed to bring it all together with a live sound, transitioning the performance from folk to rock. The lineup includes the soaring lead guitar of Scott Loving and dynamic drumming of Michael Napolitano, long time friends and collaborators. The true live sound was solidified with the melodic bass of Mark Ospovat. Lyrically reflective, rhythmically bold, Brent has a hand in the engineering of the band's sound and brings his experience of performing in front of global audiences to the table. Wooden Ghost has released two full-length albums and two collaborative split vinyl recordings. In addition, the band has independently organized their own tours in both the United Kingdom and throughout the North East. Critics in the United States and abroad consistently praise the sound of Wooden Ghost.
Brushing the dust from a low-fi past, Wooden Ghost flips through your family's photo albums, reminding you of the moments; blending familiar ideas and harmonies with singularly unique results.
