notes

In 2007, Jabe Beyer won the BMI Music Maker Songwriting Competition and was nominated for two Boston Music Awards as well as a nomination in the WFNX Best Music Poll. His namesake band, JABE, has won the Abe Oleman Songwriting Award from The Songwriting Hall of Fame as well as Boston Music Awards. Four self-produced, self-released albums along with extensive U.S. and European tours have earned JABE a reputation as one of Boston's best and hardest working live acts. Beyer's side project, The Benders, bloomed into alt-country-bluegrass favorites, embraced nationally by the press and a hardcore fanbase. With great songs and honest-to-the-bone live shows, The Boston Globe hailed JABE as "a leader in the roots music renaissance," and Jam Magazine listed his 2-disc album Drama City at Number 2 in their Best 100 Albums of The Last 10 Years. A multi-instrumentalist, producer and prolific writer, Beyer is releasing his 4th album, Where Are We Going & When Do We Get There on Hi-N-Dry records. With the help of the area's best musicians and mixed by sonic wizard Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, The Pixies), Where Are We Going & When Do We Get There shows that Beyer has grown beyond his cowpunk past and continues to evolve as an inspired songwriter and musician.

  • One of the best records I have ever heard.
    author: Michele

This album is so good I can't say enough great things about it. If you like Ryan Adams at all, you HAVE to listen to this. He doesn't sound like Ryan Adams, but definitely the same type of music & talent. My favorite songs on this album are 'Keep Going Round," "You Can't See The Stars From The Inside of a Bar," "Picture In My Pocket," "Bound to Drown," and of course, "Paradise," which I have heard other bands cover live. This version is the best, though. I fell in love with the last record, Drama City, and didn't think I could like this one as much. I was wrong.

  • Another outstanding disc for the prodigious JABE
    author: Daniel

This disc is phenomenal. Jabe takes a little different turn on "Where Do We Go & When Do We Get There", away from his previous cow-punk roots and more moody and ethereal. The songwriting is outstanding (as always), and the production is top notch. My favorites are the captivating "Paradise" and the heartbreaking lament "You Can't see the stars from the inside of a Bar". Jabe has the innate capacity to paint that image that has been hovering right next to you for years and you never knew it was there. I highly recommend this (and all) Jabe records.
