It’s named after a classic rock n’ roll album, filled with a vintage era sound and contains a bunch of brand new songs. It’s a package of contradictions served up by the most prolific band in indie rock –The Wood Floors.
Musical contradictions are served up from the get go, a great cover of the Silver Jews “Buckingham Rabbit” kicks off the album, a straight forward take of The Monkees “Pleasant Valley Sunday” brings it to a close and in between it’s Wood Floors originals aimed at making you laugh, cry and rock out.
“Empty Page” is a standout of mourning for passions lost, “There’s Nothing Wrong With Love” brings a popsloppy moment of self-reflection and “Pulling Through” rocks with the sensibility of Weezer at their hardest. And just so you can’t pin them down, the band follows “Reasons To Be Loved” with a song titled “The Reason I Can’t”. If you’ve ever been confused, lonely or read the restroom wall for vital information, The Wood Floors have a song for you.
Written and recorded in one take on April 3-4, 2010.
