Album Notes

dog days
pl.n.
"The hot, sultry period of summer between early July and early September"
[Translation of Late Latin dis canculrs, Dog Star days (so called because the Dog Star (Sirius) rises and sets with the sun during this time) : Latin dis, pl. of dis, day + Late Latin canculrs, pl. of canculris, of the Dog Star.]

The music on Jenny Woodman's new CD conjures imagery of lazy summer days spent floating on Casco Bay and the hot steamy nights that necessitate such a respite. Her smokey, sultry vocals rest in lush musical beds that range from funky to Latin tinged to straight rock grooves.

"Dog Days" is Jenny's first recording of music penned by her. She teamed with guitarist Matt Lucey a couple years ago and wrote the material for the CD and is jazzed to finally be putting it out for public consumption. Her soulfulness is captured here, informed by years of singing live night after night, week after week - time spent which guarantees that she can also perform this material live.

10 original tunes are featured along with an organic cover of Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill". Jenny enlisted a number of great musicians to take part in the recording, a number of whom have toured and /or recorded with the likes of Jeff Beck, David Bowie, Jackson Brown, Madonna, Cindi Lauper, Little Feat, Lou Reed, John McLaughlin, and even used a current member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra of Bangor, Maine. (It's a real place)
