Album Notes

You don’t often see a band that plays mostly instrumental jam funk, but also dips into lyric heavy pop-rock, flowing composition and also features a drummer whose legendary beard puts him in the rare company of pirates and lumberjacks! You don’t often see it, but The Woodshed isn’t exactly your typical band. This trio plays a blend of jazz, rock, and funk that is picking up new fans every time they play!

Hammond heavy funk gnarls give way to elegant guitar lines and syncopated drum breaks all grounded by an impressive Soulive style keyboard/bass juggling act! The Woodshed presents a very wide variety of styles and moods throughout a set, and is able to take any jam soaring to the stratosphere, then snap back blissfully to the song form.

"We really try to play with the idea that absolutely anything can happen" says keyboardist Andrew Grosvenor, "It means that sometimes we might fall flat on our faces, but it really brings energy to a set, and always results in some absolutely amazing moments."

One of the band's signature songs, Andorra, was written by guitarist Jeff Rhoades. It starts with a majestic opening that gives way to bubbly chase lines and a sparse, wistful guitar solo before falling straight into 2 chord power funk! "It's a song that's got a little bit of everything really, I'm very proud of it" says Rhoades.

Playing to larger and larger crowds in the northeast, and sharing the stage with acts like P-Groove, U-Melt, Razorface, Roots of Creation, Funkfoot, Joe Deninzon's Stratospheerius and Dizzy Reed of Guns n’ Roses, The Woodshed is a band that continues to impress, and is quickly becoming established as the hottest emerging band on the jam scene. With the impending release of their first full length studio album, “Tonic & Gin”, and their rapid emergence on the northeast circuit, the sky is the limit for this impressive and inventive young trio!

I've been a fan since the begining, but man have these guys come a long way. They've brought in a lot more funk influences than you're average phishy jam band and it makes for great listening, even if you're not a fan of the Jam Band genre in general (like me). The CD has some lighter, mellower tunes when you need them, and then some real funk too. Excellent CD, Highly recommended for people of all ages!!!
