Album Notes

CANVAS:
All starting as a group of friends casually playing both jazz standards and instinctual group improvisations,Wood to Water draws from a palette of Indian,Arabic,Spanish,Brazilian,African,as well as American Jazz influences and nuances.

NUCLEUS:
Collectively the group brings rudimental genres of jazz, blues, rock, classical,
and traditional Eastern European,Pan-Asian,and Middle-Eastern folk music.Instrumentation includes acoustic and electric guitars (Marty Metzger),saxophones (Lance Petersen),acoustic and electric violin (Major-Emanuel Seay),acoustic bass (Krzysztof Pabian), and Irish,Indian,African, and Middle Eastern hand drums and percussion (Tim Mulvenna).

Not only does the group utilize individual improvisation, but it also has developed it's unique sound of group improvisation through aesthetics and exploration, focusing on color, breath, depth, and timbre. This mixture incorporates elements that are brooding, melodic, rhythmic, and dissonant.

Original compositions suggest a coming home feel, inspired by such diverse groups and artists such as Shakti,Bill Frisell,Pat Metheny,Anouar Brahem,Oregon, and Paco DeLucia--yet offer an off slant view to the new.

CREATIONS:
Wood to Water's self-titled CD comprises of six original compositions, one improvised piece, and two Middle-Eastern standards. The CD represents a culmination of three years of weekly gigs and rehearsals in Chicago.
