This album started as a simple attempt prompted by his children to document the songs Woody Ledbetter has written over the last 25 years since he can't read or write music and there was no documentation of the songs. Woody's vocals and guitar were recorded on a Mac computer using some simple recording software in a makeshift studio in Dallas, Texas. After listening to the tracks, some local musicians, Rod Sutton, a harmonica player who is featured on the album, and Noah Robertson, drummer for the metal band The Browning, encouraged Woody to have the album professionally mixed and mastered. The result is Eggshell Highway, a collection of songs that in most cases take the listener to tears and in all cases render a smile. Woody has been described as Prine-esque and has also been likened to Townes Van Zandt on some of the darker tracks.
