Album Notes

This is the sound of two hearts beating in time. When Dyann & Michael Woody harmonize, a magical thing happens. You feel something resonating inside you. They seem to be reaching into a place of half-forgotton pleasure, a musical place where memory, nostalgia, tradition and innovation meet. It's almost as if they're plucking the strings of your soul.

Legendary producer Brian Ahern hears it. So do Michael Woody's celebrated co-writers Steve Earle, Chris Hillman and David Lee Murphy. Emmylou Harris hears it too. Always a bellweather of taste and talent, she came to perform on this debut Woodys album. Careful readers of album credits will note that there are other titans of California country on board, figures such as Albert Lee and Al Perkins. All of them heeded the siren call of the wonderous Woodys.

Ahern had been seeking a male/female Everly-style duo. Michael and Dyann were the living, breathing embodiment of his vision. The Rounder Records staff were the next to become believers, and that brings us to this moment.

The album you hold in your hands will make you a believer too. Put it on, close your eyes and prepare to have your soul stroked. This is the sound of sublime vocal communion. This is the sound of the Woodys.

REVIEWS

The Woodys

I heard one song on piped music and I had to buy the CD. I was not dissapointed. I really enjoy the vocals and instrumentals. I am a new fan.

This album has some great songs. My favorite is "Second Wind" (co-written by Chris Hillman, as I am a great Hillman fan). Also good is "Habits of the Heart," "The Rain Came Down," and the last song on the album. And there is some great steel playing by Al Perkins. The harmony singing is impeccable, but like one review I saw, Dyann should be allowed to try a lead vocal. I think the non-original songs are the weakest on the album, and so I hope they make better selections on the next album, which hopefully will show up soon.
