Album Notes

This is the first new studio album from 'WORK of ART' in 10 years!
Credited with playing all the instruments and singing all vocals (except where noted*), Art 'Ski' Halperin successfully fuses his award-winning song writing with his inspiring musicianship to create this CD.

Although Art is also listed as the Producer; he was paired with world-renowned audio engineer, Barry Diament (Barry's mastering credits include all of the Bob Marley CD's on the Tuff Gong label, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, U2, The Eagles, Yes, Genesis, Anita Baker, and more), for the entire recording process.

The album's title, "Simplicity", describes how the album was made:
Recorded in N.Y. at Top of the World Studios, these 14 tracks were captured in multi-track but not in multi-mono.
All takes were recorded in stereo using a pair of omnidirectional microphones mounted on either side of a Jecklin disk.
Though there are some samples, nothing was recorded via direct-inject; everything was done via the microphones. No pan pots were used and there is no compression or limiting anywhere on this record. The level is a bit lower than most modern CDs (because they didn't squash the life out of it) so turn it up and hear what uncompressed music sounds like.

All songs written and produced by Art 'Ski' Halperin
Mastered by Barry Diament
Mixed by Art & Barry
Special guests:
*Al Maddy, Sherryl Marshal, Michele Rubin, Rich and Jon Rosenblatt

Built around the award-winning song writing, singing, and inspired guitar playing of Art 'Ski' Halperin, New York's, 'WORK of ART' is an ever-changing band playing uniquely styled rock, pop, reggae, good-feeling-music. Away from home, they've successfully toured throughout the US., Europe, South America, and the Caribbean, both headlining and opening up for acts such as Santana, Jerry Garcia, Third World, Jimmy Cliff, The Police, Bo Diddley, and Chuck Berry. As a solo artist, Art has shared the stage with Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Marty Stuart, Joni Mitchell, Robbie Robertson (the Band), The Temptations, David Grisman, Doc Watson and Glen Tillbrook of Squeeze.

Art's abilities have taken him in many different directions. As a composer, songs he's written for other artists have appeared on Billboard's R&B, Pop, and even Classical charts. He's written and recorded on many national and international albums, TV., and Radio commercials. Along with his band, he's also been featured on screen in the John Sayles movie "Baby it's You."

The legendary producer and talent scout John Hammond Sr., (the man who discovered Dylan, Springsteen and Aretha Franklin among many others) was so impressed with Art's music that he signed Art as the first artist on Hammond/CBS Records. A ten-song album was completed for the label. After Hammond passed away, rock history books have noted Art to be “John Hammond’s last discovery”.

If you want to hear some new music which sounds truly outstanding, I recommend this CD very strongly. The songwriting and performances are awesome, and the sound quality is very nice and dynamic, beautifully mastered by the great Barry Diament without the use of any dreaded digital compression and so on. You can't go wrong with this album.

Great songs, all original, by a truly superlative guitar player. Good mix of sounds, both electric and acoustic, very tasteful studio work, by somebody who knows what he's doing. I'd recommend it to most anyone who wants to hear some new songs done well---
