Spider Lake

by Wormwood Brothers

Like Neil Young sipping whiskey with Ray Davies in the desert. Hallucinatory alt.country for sleepy dreamers. A set of eerie americana, creeping feedback ballads, and harmonized folk songs. A reverb-tinged eve by the river.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hallucinatory alt.country for sleepy dreamers. The Arizona purveyors of "Dustcore" have released their debut CD "Spider Lake", an album full of dreamy rustic-noir songs and reverb-tinged odes. Dripping with alt. country and folk influence, it's also an album that pop and rock fans can raise a drink to. Wormwood Brothers inhabit a world filled with Cosmic Americans and down-on-their-luck dreamers. The band named themselves after wormwood, a poisonous ingredient in the ancient drink Absinthe.

If you like artists like Magnolia Electric Company, Built to Spill, Gram Parsons, Wilco, Big Star, Magnolia Electric Company, or My Morning Jacket, you will certainly like Wormwood Brothers.

Phoenix New Times wrote: "The latest truly stellar album I’ve gotten is by Wormwood Brothers, entitled Spider Lake. The band calls its music “dustcore,” which is an appropriate description for this desert/country assemblage of depressing drinking songs. It’s not what I’d call “y’all-ternative;” it sticks to traditional styles ranging from early Neil Young to modern purveyors of the sound like My Morning Jacket. Here are a couple of my favorites: “Trigger Happy” and “Just Like John Lennon Said”

www.getoutaz.com said "The reverb and feedback-soaked alt-country sounds on “Spider Lake,” the Wormwood Brothers debut CD, nearly replicate in sound the languid, dreamy hallucinations of an absinthe buzz"

I got the CD and love it. It's like the Band and the Burrito Brothers jamming together in the desert. Your vocals are excellent and the pedal-steel is a real nice touch.

"Listening to the 10 eerie, dreamy country-noir tunes that make up the Wormwood Brothers’ debut disc, “Spider Lake,” it is easy to imagine the band gathered in a candlelit studio, a la Hemingway and his expat brethren in 1920s Paris, sipping absinthe and composing music, but Miles says the Wormwood Brothers are currently bereft of the liqueur."

"This local self-described "dustcore" outfit called Wormwood Brothers sent me a beautiful little track called "Trigger Happy" that reminds me of shoegazers with a taste for y'all-ternative bands like Wilco, Son Volt, and their ilk. It's pretty fucking melancholy, as are the other tracks up on the band's myspace page. The Wormwood Bros have an album in the works, and if these songs are any indication, it'll be worth watching for. Check it out, see what you think." - Brendan Joel Kelley
