Album Notes

Woven Chords is a mixed adult choir based in Stamford, Lincolnshire, UK. The choir was formed in 1995 and was led from 2000 to 2010 by musical director Chris Rowbury.

Woven Chords are not a typical ‘choir’. Rather than singing Western classical music or songs from the shows, we draw on songs from many cultures and singing traditions across the globe, all in the original languages. The choir works with the philosophy that everyone can sing so there are no auditions to join the choir and we don’t use written music. Everything is taught by ear and we create wonderful harmonies using just the human voice with no instrumental accompaniment.

We released our first ‘studio’ CD in 2005. This second CD reflects the many performances we have done in the five years since then. This CD contains recordings from 2005 - 2009 which were made on a variety of equipment in several different venues, so the sound quality varies from song to song. We have done very little editing, so you will sometimes hear audience noises, creaky floors, stamping feet, coughing and some applause! We have tried to capture the most spirited and compelling performances from all our concerts during this period.

The choir has around 80 members, over 200 songs in its repertoire and performs regularly to a very high standard. We have appeared at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the stately home Grimsthorpe Castle, a male prison, outdoors by the river in Stamford and a whole range of other venues throughout the UK.
