Album Notes

William T Maggart Jr. is a singer-songwriter who comes from a long lineage of musicians and singers from Tennessee. Born in Gallatin TN, he started singing at a very young age and has fond memories of gathering around the piano with friends and family while singing songs. He pursued music throughout his life and has performed a variety of styles, from classic rock to opera. Yet when writing songs he settles in to where he feels most comfortable, the folk style.

When performing his songs, William is commonly compared to John Denver, which he considers to be a high compliment. In his music, he draws upon life's experience in a way that allows the songs to span across generations. William has shared his music with people of all ages and many identify with the heart of his songs. He draws upon his vocal training to blend a variety of harmonies that reach deep into the heart of those who listen. Professionally, William is a physical therapist who loves to participate in the healing process and hopes his music will be an extension of that calling.

The events that occurred in September of 2001 deeply impacted William and he decided that it was the time to record his music. He has written several of the songs on "The Man Within" since 9/11 including: Be a Friend, Clouds, Windows of the Soul and The Man Within. The song, "Clouds," is one of his favorites, as he wrote it in early October 2001 while driving to Tennessee. It was a brilliant blue-sky day with billowing white clouds suspended across the sky. He was suddenly taken back to his childhood, laying on the grass, staring at the sky with the clouds rolling by, enjoying the pictures that they painted. By the time he arrived at his destination in Tennessee, he had written the song "Clouds."

As you listen to "The Man Within" you are guaranteed that a chord will be struck inside your heart. William believes if a chord is struck it needs to be heard, so don't diminish the chord! He says, "if people desire to be a better friend, or love their spouse more, or reach out to their children in a deeper way, or pursue the dreams that God has placed in their heart with more passion after listening to my music, then I will consider this project a success".
