In 2006 Michiel Braam formed a new trio: the Wurli Trio. The Wurlitzer electric piano with its specific sound and vibrato playes the central role in this trio.
The Wurli Trio is totally different than his other ensembles since this trio is rock orientated. This gives way for a different approach in improvisation. Combining improvisations with a mixture of jazz, funk and seventies rock.
The Wurli Trio consists of Michiel Braam on keys, Pieter Douma from the legendary band ‘Blow Beat’ on the bass guitar and Dirk-Peter Kölsch, founding member of the great German jazz band ‘Underkarl’, on drums.
According to All About Jazz New York the trio's latest CD "Non Functionals!" is one of the Best Albums Of 2009.
