The band stays in the background pretty much except for standout cameos. "if Not Forever is a solo acoustic number that gets an added poignant sting from the steel guitar of Bob Wlos. Complex, melodic, tuneful, off-centre; the sort of thing you'd expect from Orbison-&-Zevon getting happy on the deepest, darkest Guinness one misty golden sunrise. Songs are memorable and infectious: deeply varied in tone, shade, nuance and the emotion they provoke; which in turn makes it a deeply satisfying listen. Having thought very hard about it, I'd say it's easily the best LP I've bought in the last two to three years. *Highly* recommended.
