Sea of Tranquility: Prayers with Music is a collection of prayers written and spoken by poet, author and chaplain, Wycliffe Tyson. Born of faithful, loving parents in the West Indies, Mr. Tyson has travelled worldwide—serving in the US Navy, working as a merchant seaman, and teaching in China. Beset by mental illness, Mr. Tyson sought healing from a dizzying array of healing practitioners, finally finding comfort in His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He describes his search by saying, “Seeking God through prayer is the only way to fill the void.” In Mr. Tyson’s own endearing voice, you will hear a depth of compassion, the richness of spirit that comes from wrestling with some of life’s toughest challenges, and surety resulting from intimately knowing the Great Physician.
“I was motivated to create this CD to help people to begin to pray, meditate, be at peace with themselves and the world. As you listen to the CD, it will bring you into the presence of our Lord, uniting our faith, trust and hope in God. It will give you a sense that He is there for you and will encourage and strengthen your prayer life.” W. Tyson
More about Mr. Tyson:
Wycliffe Tyson’s life, which began in the West Indies, has taken him around the world, and brought him full circle back to the God that his parents taught him about in daily devotionals before breakfast. No stranger to hard work, Mr. Tyson worked from the time he was a young child, carrying two buckets of water from a mile away, tending the family’s chickens, and taking their sheep to the pasture, all before going to school.
Mr. Tyson’s father, a graduate from Howard University Law School in the early 1900s, and his mother, who left her path toward becoming a school principal to marry his father, both valued education and taught him to aim high. Despite a mental illness, which sent him in a global search for healing, Mr. Tyson has lived through abuse at the hands of insensitive peers and unscrupulous authorities and has come out the victor, thanks to his belief in Father God and His precious Son Jesus.
Wycliffe Tyson moved to America as a teenager with his mother and three siblings, having lost his father when he was only eleven, one short year after being beset by what he describes in his autobiography "Overcoming Shadows from a Child" as “a mysterious heaviness in my head that constrained my ability to think and do things freely.”
While serving in the US Navy in Vietnam and later shipping commodities such as coffee beans from one African port to another as a member of the National Maritime Union, young Tyson unsuccessfully sought relief from his psychological issues by consulting witch doctors, mediums, and spiritual guides. Until recent years, even traditional doctors failed to do much more than heavily medicate him.
Despite bearing his share of challenges and several failed attempts at earning higher degrees, Mr. Tyson never gave up on himself. He now holds B.S. degrees in Human Resources Management and Biblical Studies, as well as an A.S. in Dietetic Nutrition-Care from Trinity International University in Miami, Fla.; holds a Doctor of Naturopathy degree from Clayton College of Natural Health in Birmingham, Ala.; earned certification as a Hypnotherapist from the International Association of Counselors and Therapists; and is an ordained chaplain.
Wycliffe Tyson is a living example of the power of prayer, which has provided him great comfort. It has also allowed him to share his gift of poetry through his book, "Using Poetry as a Therapy for Positive Living", and his prayers through "Sea of Tranquility: Prayers with Music", his first spoken word CD project.
