“In listening to X-Ray Press’ first full length you realize that music is a journey, and these guys are treading around in some new territory.” -Delusions of Adequacy
“We’re now one step closer to the great math-rock album of our times.” -Altsounds
“It’s always a bit difficult it seems to achieve a bit of originality when you’re trying your hand at this, but bands like X-Ray Press are showing that it can still be done.” -Built on a Weak Spot
UVB-76 is the new album from X-Ray Press. The record is a carefully constructed abstract narrative sure to resonate with every listener, exploring themes of alienation, confusion, mental instability, and ultimate purpose. It is named after a mysterious Russian radio transmission site also known as “the buzzer,” which has been transmitting the same intermittent buzzing sound for decades without any explanation. It is against this strange backdrop that this collection of songs is set.
An 18-track journey with the perfect mix of melody, dissonance, and progressive breakdowns, UVB-76 is smart and introspective-and even humorous at times. The album is a huge step forward in artistic sophistication and shows X-Ray Press expanding on the groundwork laid out in their 2007 debut release, ep1 brkn type, which was released on Tellous Records.
