Top of the "Best Of" List!
author: Smoothjazz.com Review
Before I even got to the music, I was impressed. The album's credits list him not only as a performer (on a multitude of instruments, including all guitars, bass, synth, and piano), but as composer; producer; engineer; and executive producer. You can't be a novice or a slouch to wear all those hats. Yandall wears them all effectively. This, his seventh recording, is at once cool and hot; fresh and familiar. SAMOA SOUL is everything that is right with Smooth Jazz: grooves you can move to, melodies you can hum to and instances where you can turn introspective and just enjoy the moment. Opening with the title track, Yandall holds us captive with his superlative guitar execution. "Londons Way" has a gentle eloquence to it that is like a sweet caress. The cleverly titled, "Who's the Bossa" is also an outstanding track. While I may have two left feet, those of you who actually can dance will definitely have the urge to get up and find a partner with "Back In The Day," as it's full of charm and passion that will surely have you longing for whatever it is you didn't realize you were missing. Yandall's previous release, EYES OF MARS, was named one of Jazz Times' top CDs (along with records from Herbie Hancock, Bob James and Euge Groove to give you some perspective) and there is no doubt that SAMOA SOUL should rank in the top echelon on this year's "best of" lists as well. ~BETH LEWIS

Another incredible release from Patrick Yandall
author: Ed Mower
From beginning to end, the listener is vaulted into a pulsing, rhythmic world of beauty and color. The songs fill the air with amazing sounds that caress the mind and satisfy the soul. An amazing compilation, mostly featuring Patrick's many talents and diversity in instrumentation, 'Samoa Soul' shows the world of Jazz and New Age that Patrick Yandall is THE hottest talent around. His rendition of 'Sailing', originally released by Christopher Cross, makes one appreciate it all the more, and makes anew an old friendly melody. 'Dawn Patrol' captures your breath with the opening note and doesn't let go until the last one dies away some four and a half minutes later, and I dare you to stay in your seat as 'Funkin' For Jamaica' moves your passion and fever along it's awesome journey. Patrick just keeps getting better and better and we, the listeners, are the benefactors of his vision.

I enjoyed listening to all 11 tracks on this CD.

Each one is a treat for the mind, soul, and body. Each track has a different mood and tempo while offering pure smooth jazz with Latin and R&B rudiments to give it that certain Yandall flavor that is prevalent on all his releases. You do not have to be a star in the world of music, but this star is bright and one of the most promising in the world of jazz. The Muzikman

A lot of water has run down the river Rhine since my first review about Patrick Yandall's album "Back To The Groove". Times are tough and difficult today's. The audience is keeping their money and an artist has to be really good to convince the listeners to buy his album. Keeping that in mind Patrick Yandall created his personal dream: "Samoa Soul" (2006) spell bounding the audience with his vision of Island magic. Read more at the above mentioned website.
