Album Notes

Yellow Second is an infectious power pop band featuring four seasoned musicians from Denver, Colorado. Fans of artists like Weezer, The Posies, Superdrag, and Fountains of Wayne will appreciate this bands well-crafted melodies and honest lyrics. The band released their second full length album, 'Still Small,' on Nov. 5, 2002 on the New Jersey based Urban Achiever records. This new album reveals Yellow Second to be a band of constant improvement. According to singer / guitarist / primary songwriter Scott Kerr; ³The new tunes are much more energetic, and the production on this record captures that energy very wellŠthe songs speak for themselves.²

Formed in late 1999 by Kerr, Yellow Second set out with the goal of "writing good songs which are musically interesting but also accessible." Those who have heard the band, either recorded or at one of their shows, know that the band have achieved this. Indeed, upon hearing Yellow Second¹s debut album ³June One,² the Long Beach, CA based web zine The Scout were inclined to print;

"Yellow Second is a radio friendly power pop band who write songs that get stuck in your head for weeks on end. . . you can tell the band has more talent in one finger than most bands on the radio."

While the bands hometown entertainment weekly, Westword magazine, had this to say about 'Still Small,' the bands sophomore release:

"Still Small is an awfully modest title for this disc. . .power pop filled to the brim with bright hooks and snappy grooves. . . [Yellow Second is a] most promising act. . .Color me impressed."

And the music editor of Go-Go magazine said that

"['Still Small' is] Polished and well-produced. . . a masterful slab of guitar pop heaven. . . Partly Weezeresque, with an obvious love of the Fab Four and a willingness to bang hard on their instruments, Yellow Second sounds as if they should be on the radio. Like yesterday."

The band released its first album, 'June One,' in the spring of 2000, while they were living in Seattle. They quickly began receiving offers to play in clubs in the Seattle area, helping them to build a following in that city. They performed with a number of national and well known local bands including; John Vanderslice, The Prom, Pris, and others. The band continued to perform around the Seattle area in 2000 and 2001. Soon, they began to receive the attention of several labels in the Northwest, but chose to record their second record ³Still Small² independently once again.

By early 2002, just after completing the recording of 'Still Small' Yellow Second relocated to Denver. Not that dramatic of a move, since Kerr had lived in Denver for a number of years, and in Colorado for most his life.

It was in Denver, in the Spring of 2002, that the line up of the band was solidified to begin playing live in their ³new² town. Soon after, the band attracted the attention of the New Jersey based Urban Achiever Records, who released 'Still Small' on Nov 5, 2002. The release of this album, with it¹s well written, poppy and energetic songs, helped Yellow Second attract even more attention.

By summer, they had begun playing around the Colorado area to enthusiastic crowds with some of the areas best bands and opening for several national touring acts such as Something Corporate, Switchfoot, Relient K and RX Bandits. Yellow Second has performed in a number of Denver area clubs including: The Ogden, The Aggie Theater, 15th St. Tavern, The Soiled Dove, The Fox Theater, Herman¹s Hideaway, and Club 156. The band continues to play shows in the Denver area in addition to touring nationally.
