Album Notes

This amazing collection consists of 18 classic and rare recordings by some of the most important klezmers (musicians) that influenced generations of musician of the genre. These are the recordings that have been studied by every major Klezmer group since the turn of the 29th century. These were taken for 78 rpm record, most of which were recorded acoustically--before the invention of dynamic microphones. The original masters no longer exist, and although every attempt has been made to maximize the fidelity--without sacrificing the sound of the instruments--the ultimate criterion for the inclusion in the anthology was musical. Included is a 28 page booklet, written in both English and German which includes many old photographs with detailed information on the history of Klezmer music and artist information.
This recording is a must have for every lover of traditional Klezmer music.
Produced by Joel Rubin and Rita Ottens
