LONELY WARRIOR
by Yolanda Martinez
Native American singer and songwriter Yolanda Martinez has climbed to the top of her craft with her new album, LONELY WARRIOR. Here is a recording that honors the Apache, the Veteran, the Warrior in Men and Women everywhere.
Using her powerful yet angelic voice, and her considerable songwriting talents, this Apache/Mexican American has created a fantastic selection that touches many genres of music including country, blues and Latin...to name a few. And her ten songs speak of spirituality, honor, Geronimo, wistfullness and love.
Yolanda is a natural when you hear her sweet yet sensual voice, and her lyrics that go right to your heart. In LONELY WARRIOR (about Geronimo's banishment to the Florida swamps), we hear, "In a cool dark cell/Where the warm desert winds never blow/A great warrior sits/He smiles as his mind journeys home."
About love in END OF THE DAY, "I love the way you say good night/The kiss the hug, real tight/I reach my hand and feel you there/The warmth, the soft, we share." And about the end of a romance, A SOFT PLACE TO FALL says, "Looking out your window, at the dawn/Baby when you wake up, I'll be gone/You're the one who taught me after all/ how to find a soft place to fall."
In this reveiwer's opinion LONELY WARRIOR is a superb album from a superb singer/songwriter. Yolanda Martinez has given us a part of herself and her heritage...and songs that will be remembered for a long time to come.
LONELY WARRIOR got Yolanda nominated for BEST FOLK COUNTRY ARTIST OF THE YEAR, by the Native American Music Awards.

Every song has a life of its own.

I love this CD; it is unusual to find a grouping of songs by the same artist where each song has a life of its own. There is something for everyone. I love it!
