Album Notes

‘Yomi’ is a 24-year-old Singer/ Songwriter from the UK. Born in South London as one of 5 children who were all musical.

At the age of 11, he was introduced to a London based reggae sound system with his cousins called ‘genius’; this was his first real taste of the music business. ‘Yomi’ MC’d whilst his cousin sang the tracks, as time progressed, he felt more comfortable singing rather than MC’ing and started developing his vocals at age 13. By 15 years of age ‘Yomi’ was on his first project for 6 months singing vocals in a recording studio, since then he sang for various producers and started writing his own music, this varied from dancehall to RnB, through session work more and more experienced was gained.

At the age of 20 ‘Yomi’ got his first chance to perform his own music live on stage in London at small events to gain confidence, this was well received by the London crowd, shortly afterwards he to relocate to Bristol to work with the youth and his musical talent came with him, this led him to perform on stage as a support act for ‘so solid crew’ and ‘dru hill’.

‘Yomi’s’ name started to build within the South West and shortly after a few local gigs was introduced to Mark AKA “Mixmaster M” of Blackstory Entertainment, by a mutual friend and recorded a track called ‘Daydreams’, which he wrote myself. With this track ‘Yomi’ completed a mini tour around Bristol to see if it was get a positive response, the tour was really successful and to further develop his career ‘Yomi’ went into training his mind, body and soul, so that he could hit the music industry with a bang. This involved working with producers in London as well as Bristol and finding my singing style.

As time progressed ‘Yomi’ started getting various project offers and is now currently working with Blackstory Entertainment, promoting another track also written by him called ‘Fantasy’.

‘Yomi’ loves being a solo artist in the limelight. He loves performing and entertaining the fans, it gives him a buzz.

The release of the ‘Fantasy’ track was decided upon when the kind of music currently being listened to at the moment, it will fit right in. ‘Yomi’ has already performed this track on stage and he said ‘it went down a storm, the crowd loved it’. The name ‘Fantasy’ is on the same theme as ‘Daydreams’ the previous track that he wrote.

Yomi is constantly influenced by music artists on a daily basis, but the ones that really stick in his mind are:

¨ Bob Marley – he grew up listening to and loving his voice
¨ Lionel Ritchie – loves the style of songs Lionel has performed
¨ Sanchez – ‘Yomi’ admires his voice
¨ Craig David – he respects the style of songs he performs, as this is unique
¨ LL Cool J – ‘Yomi’ says ‘his game is tight, he has the full package, not just music – everything’ and
¨ Ms Dynamite – she represents a positive, female, black role model for others in England

‘Yomi’s’ favourite music styles are dancehall, RnB, Hip-hop and the Spoken word. He would describe his voice as ‘stylish and cool’.

Singing makes him feel alive, like an emotional Rolla coaster (‘up and down’), which makes him want to succeed even more in the music business, because he says ‘I will not be defeated, I’ll keep going for as long as it takes’. Music makes him feel sooo good about himself; it fills a void that nothing else can.

‘Yomi’ sees his future as a success in the music/entertainment industry, a role model that young people can look up to and have a no.1 in the charts. He would love to work alongside Kano, Ciara and Snoop Dog to name but a few.

REVIEWS

An excellent debut album! A great mix of urban and pop genres.

I love the whole album because its the kind of album you dont need to skip tracks on! Each track has its own flava and style but together all these tracks form a well rounded commercially friendly album. I especially love Get To Know Me, Your Shadow, Come With Me, Gimme Some More and Daydreams. There are slow smooth tracks (Shadow/ Lights Down Low/Crossroads)and upbeat tracks for the club ( Fantasy/Come With Me)which shows Yomi's versatility as an artist. The album looks very well packaged and professional. I think Yomi's album Get To Know Me is a very credible urban pop album and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves!
