We are dedicated to Afrika/BLACKNESS in the spiritual, emotional and physical sense. We are young Afrikans embodying the wisdom and strength of our ancestors and have accepted the mission to elevate minds to a Divine Power. We are spiritual warriors fighting the good fight against oppression using music as Our weapon.
Since We first stepped on a stage, grabbed microphones, plugged into amps, and addressed a crowd, comparisons have been made to legends in music like The Fugees for their musical blending, Morgan Heritage for their contemporary roots reggae and Black Uhuru for their vintage Rastafarian message and sound. However, We are still unique but do recognize that Our similarities to the above mentioned allows for audiences to feel a warmth and familiarity with Us. And We appreciate their paving the way for the Young Elderz experience!
We bring music with a message. The message is of social reform and spiritual evolution. You can expect to hear the Revolutionary, Righteous and Romantic from Us. We make sure Our music is enjoyable listening that uplifts and inspires- after all that's what music is about. The music has a message that invokes insight and deep introspection to all who have ears to hear. Armed with Our music and Our Rastafarian faith We are ready to take the nation on a spiritual journey in route to social change.
If you would like to see more of Us, check out Our photographers' page at www.nattylovephotos.com. Also check out Our site www.young-elderz.com to learn more about Us.
After you have purchased and heard Our music, by all means send Us a reply via email YOUNG_ELDERZ@yahoo.com.
Until then,
Jah Bless! Rastafari!
MUSIC BIO:
The muzik will make you smile. The beat will move your soul joyfully. The lyrics will send you into deep thought. The album will transform you.
The Young Elderz present their debut album : "CHILDREN of RASTAFARI" for your listening pleasure. We have worked hard to provide a form of Reggae that captures Caribbean Folk muzik dating back to the Mento muzik days while dealing with issues relevent to the here and now.
The muzik preaches a doctrine of love, peace, black pride, anti-corruption and hope for the poor -- some of the teachings of the Rastafari faith.
The album is a protest movement; We are voicing Our suffering. Listen to tracks like: Deliver My Soul | I Don't Know | Woes! | They Fighting and feel the pain.
We are also voicing Our joy. Listen to tracks like: Revolutionary | He's Calling | It's a Blessing | Psalms 138 |The Crossing | There's a Place | Spirit.
There are other tracks that can be highlighted, but We will let you listen and find out more for yourselves.
Jah Bless! Rastafari!

author: Mark @Reggae-ReviewsOne of the most difficult things for a musical act to accomplish in this been-there-done-that day and age is to sound unique. With their striking debut Children of Rastafari, Young Elderz does just that. And to quote Martha Stewart, "That's a good thing." This multi-gender group of singers and musicians blends rich roots harmonies with strumming guitars to form a truly engaging listening experience. The closest comparison I can make is if you were to blend Morgan Heritage with Tracy Chapman. While the Chapman-esque folksiness comes through on tracks like "Woes!" and "Deliver My Soul," that by no means is the extent of the group's sound. "Children of Rastafari" and "I Don't Know" have a propulsive '70s funk edge, "The Crossing" and "Towers of Return" feel like swaying '50s R&B ballads, "Marcus Garvey" has a jazzy touch, and "Spirit" has a gospel vibe, not to mention the traditional one-drop groove of "They Fighting." And the most amazing thing is that it all works! As with the recent acoustic Inna de Yard releases from Earl "Chinna" Smith and Kiddus I, the folk guitar sound doesn't diminish the reggae foundation on which the music here rests. The vocals are soulful and layered, providing a mild gospel feel throughout. Lyrically, Young Elderz deliver humble, righteous messages with a charming universality that transcends Rastafarianism on tracks like "Marcus Garvey," which notes that "This is not racial or political, or even whimsical or prejudicial, or even ethical or superficial, or social or even spiritual. This is the truth that none can deny: Marcus Garvey was a great guy." If you want a taste of something a little different, check out Children of Rastafari.
Proof that hard work pays off!
author: AmiraThe CD gives me everything I want. The topics are real. The tones and moods transition smoothly. There is a song to suite your mood and the approach (vocal and instrumentals) are combined well. A great CD, enjoy it!
they just make good music together
author: Ted "The Boot" BoothroydLet’s consider what The Young Elderz offer. They spend 61 minutes demonstrating how much can be achieved with simple instruments and a few intermingling voices in combination with great tunes. There’s no showing off, and they haven’t hired a posse of big names to help; they just make good music together. The lyrics are straightforward expressions of concern and faith. The harmonies may seem fragile at times, but they are practiced, inventive and warm. The production is professional but nothing fancy. And the album works beautifully. Each track has its attractions, but I’ll cite three particularly. “The Crossing” uses a simple chord progression on guitar as the basis of a lovely hymn; it changes at the 3-minute mark to a more pronounced, quicker rhythm. Among the many strong musical hooks on this album, “It’s a Blessing” has perhaps the most unforgettable in the harmonies of the title refrain. And I have to mention the extended song about African repatriation, “Towers of Return,” which begins with nyahbinghi drumming and a spoken mediation, then turns into a very pretty chant with humming vocal support and simple guitar accompaniment. This is your chance to be one of those whose CD purchase will still be played and enjoyed five years from now. Go ahead, get this modest work of art.
Fresh, New Interesting.
author: Karin NydiaThis cd is fresh and it makes you think more importanly. It's great for anyone who is fed up of the normal, boring stuff. Great Young Elderz, Thanks.
delicate, urgent and heart-felt
author: Roger Steffens, Founding Editor, The Beat"A delicate, urgent and heart-felt plea for the eternal verities of Rasta, by second-generation believers, interpreted for this new and needy century." Roger Steffens, Founding Editor, The Beat
very mellow in theme, but invites the listener to "listen" to the lyrics.
author: SakileThe instrumentals are well syncopated and smooth. In time and maturity, I imagine the recording to become more succinct.I enjoy listening to Children of Rastafari, I Don't Know and there are two more that my ears seem to gravitate to. More productions will create more mastery in terms of the strength of the voices (confidence. Walk GOOD!
breaking new ground
author: Kyle Russell, KRucial Reggae & Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide InteThe Young Elderz are both - breaking new ground yet revealing what have now become 'traditional values' - in praise of Jah Father. With a lot of acoustic guitar and harmony work, the group reflects the American context in which they are currently based. At once, this project is returning to the roots, and pioneering new ground at a time when reggae's new generation is taking root beyond the Caribbean
Not your typical reggae band.
author: NewBlackMusic.netThe young elderz is not your typical reggae band, they have a fresh new interesting approach to reggae music. They have elements of 60's era american folk genre, which makes their music unique and very listenable. The young elderz harmonies are very good especially the haunting female vocals. Definitely a good cd! New Black Music.net.
A different presentation, offering more of an acoustic blend than usual...
author: FLAGGA DUPECHILDREN OF RASTAFARI is a different presentation, offering more of an acoustic blend than usual. The album also steps away from the rehashed rhythms that's so prevalent with the average reggae production and offers the listener an opportunity to truly absorb its messages. Overall, CHILDREN OF RASTAFARI has its place in the roots & culture arena, as it continues to promote the revolutionary ideals of truth, rights and Rastafari. Flagga

author: BigggaThis is truly a 1deful CD. It's great to hear quality music from musicians who care so much about their craft. Nowadays, when you buy a CD if you can listen to 5-6 straight tracks without skipping; you have a good CD. I didn't have to skip any songs on the Album. The YOUNG ELDERZ have a fan in me.

Great to hear good meaningful lyrics in reggae nowadays. Here's a group that many young artists, reggae or any genre need to be inspired by. A great role model for future songwriters.
World got you down? Pop in this cd. It’s a soul massage
author: BrenNo track skipping. I love the drums and acoustic mixed in with some electric as on title song and He’s calling (One of my favorites). Listen to Woes and you feel the music. Whatever you do pay attention to the lyric of all songs. It is what helps seperate this group. They are relevant, contemplative and reviving. The beats on Children of Rastafari and They Fighting are intoxicating. Then there are the vocals that add to the strength of the album. These ladies and gents are harmonious. These are potent voices singing potent lyrics meant to help navigate us on this journey call life. Enjoy. I sure did.

Being an artist myself, I can really appreciate the message of unity, culture, love, and spirituality. It is such a mix of everything I like! This band can go internationally without a doubt. The Reggae beat at the end of track #3 (The Crossing), is wicked!
